Mike Manning, Consultant, served as an Area Director and Vice President of Development during his 30-year career with Young Life of Canada. His abilities to build deep and trusting relationships with teens, honed in the first half of his Young Life career, translated well in his transition to working with adult supporters and major donors for the remainder of his time with Young Life. By his motto, “80% of success is just showing up”, Mike successfully built a network of engaged donors across Canada who partnered with the mission in two recent capital campaigns. In addition to his development work, including annual funding, Mike enjoyed training new staff and volunteer committees in their fundraising by teaching The FOCUS Group’s Taking Donors Seriously. Before joining the TFG team, Mike was a client for a feasibility study and campaign counsel.
Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Mike has a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from UBC, a Diploma in Christian Studies from Regent College, and has taken courses at Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
Mike and his wife Sheralyn live in Vancouver, BC, and have four children in their university and high school years. When not at his desk or in an airport, Mike can often be found at the ice rink, either coaching his son’s team or playing himself. In the summertime, Mike enjoys sailing and golfing.
